Who does not love smelling nice and fabulous?  Absolutely nobody, hence why majority of the world’s population makes use of a perfume of some sort daily to scent great!

Perfumes are fragrant liquid typically made from flowers and spices, to give a pleasant smell to one’s body. Ranging from different distinct scents, perfumes are made by different brands and are packaged in different interesting forms and bottles to suit the different preferences of individuals. 

Here are some fun facts you probably do not know about perfumes:                 

1: Perfume is not  great for your hair it has the potential to damage your hair. Many perfumes contain alcohol which can cause dryness if applied frequently. According to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ethyl alcohol can have a drying effect on skin and hair. For this reason, many cosmetics choose to use other alcohols in their formulas. Untreated dryness can cause long-term damage, such as breakage, split ends, and frizziness to the hair 

2: The composition of a perfume might change overtime. This is why it is recommended to use your perfume within 3-5 years. The older the perfume, the more difficult it becomes to smell the fragrance. 

3: There are certain factors you should consider while storing a perfume. Humidity, sunlight and variations of temperature will have an impact on your perfume overtime. Therefore, to make your perfume last longer, make sure to store it upright in a dark place that is not impacted by humidity or extreme changes of temperatures. So the bathroom or car is not really ideal to keep your perfumes.

4:Perfumes are mood boosters . Perfumes are  definitely a ‘feel good stimulant’ that can relax you, improve your  mood, make you feel sexy, and act as a confidence booster. Perfumes are also known to evoke certain associations. Having a scent memory can be quite special, People around you gets to remember you by your perfume. 

5: When testing new perfumes, avoid trying more than three in a row. Your nose will have trouble differentiating the aromas if you happen to overload. A quick way to clear your nasal passages? Take a deep breath against your shirt, or a bowl of coffee beans (which fragrance stores usually have on hand).

6: One third of men’s fragrances sold are worn by women. Surprisingly, there is little inherently masculine or feminine about a particular scent, it’s all how it’s presented.

7. Rubbing your wrists is a no-no. If you have the habit of rubbing your wrists against each other after spraying a scent, nix the habit immediately. Typically, perfumes are complex combination of top notes, heart notes, and base notes. The top notes are more delicate and fade quickly, while the base notes are long lasting. The friction caused by rubbing your wrists increases the interaction of the fragrance with your skin’s natural oils, which can end up distorting the scent. 

8: Instead of spritzing fragrance all over yourself, opt for applying your scent to certain areas of the body, or pulse points. Pulse points are locations on the body where the blood vessels are closest to the skin. These spots radiate heat, which help the fragrance radiate from your skin into the air. Increase the life expectancy of your bottle and spray only on the inner wrists, base of your neck, behind your earlobes, and your inner elbows.

9: Ever noticed that your perfume disappears after a few minutes? The truth is that it is still there, but your nose and brain stop noticing it because it becomes familiar. Once your brain realises that it is not harmful, it just ignores it. In fact, if you have a signature scent that you use all the time, your brain becomes so used to it that it barely notices it at all, and you’ll only be able to smell the top notes of the scent every time you spray it. 

10: The same perfume can smell different on two different people. Perfume mixes with your unique scent. The final product that other people smell is a combination of the ingredients of the perfume, your odor print, your sweat and environmental components like dirt and pollution. In fact, your diet plays a major role in determining what your unique scent is.
